Four Worlds of Work. We’ve developed four different scenarios for the future world of work. Each is an aid to scenario-planning to help you imagine what the future may bring. Each has implications for your people and how you work, your products and services and your business model. The Future of the Workforce examines how external factors – including demographic upheaval, digital technology, disruption to business models, and new employee expectations - are requiring both workers and businesses to adapt and change the way they work, and governments to rethink policy. A key to companies’ future success will be in providing continuous learning options and instilling a culture of lifelong learning throughout the organization. In our survey, this cultural change was ranked by companies across most sectors as the change most needed for developing the workforce of the future.

The Centre for Workforce Futures is a collaborative hub connecting researchers from a wide range of disciplines and universities with government, industry, not-for-profit organisations and the broader community to undertake problem-focused research and thought leadership that addresses current and future economic and social challenges relating to work, working people, work organisation and Greater Manchester Workforce Futures Centre sharing toolkits, resources and best practice to support the delivery of local workforce plans as well as the wider Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Workforce Strategy. The Future of the Workforce examines how external factors – including demographic upheaval, digital technology, disruption to business models, and new employee expectations - are requiring both workers and businesses to adapt and change the way they work, and governments to rethink policy. Future of Work Disruption lies ahead. Driven by accelerating connectivity, new talent models, and cognitive tools, work is changing. As robotics, AI, the gig economy and crowds grow, jobs are being reinvented, creating the “augmented workforce.” We must reconsider how jobs are designed and work to adapt and learn for future growth.
